How to care for and store leather handbags
November 21st, 2011Buying a leather handbag is a wise investment. Durable and luxurious, it can last you many years; longer if you take proper care of it. Like your skin, leather is a natural product, so it needs to be cleaned and moisturised to keep it in top shape. Your leather handbag can come from a variety of animal sources, but is usually cow hide. Below are some tips to consider when caring for your handbag.
1. Cleaning: Use a leather handbag cleaner, even if your bag looks clean, to remove any surface dirt. Apply the cleaning solution using a non-dyed cloth. It is always a good idea to do a patch test first in an unnoticeable area of your bag to ensure you do not damage your bag. Once a month will do.
2. Moisturising: Apply a leather handbag conditioner (not on patent leather though) as per manufacturer’s instructions. Apply only after using the recommended cleaner. Again, use a non-dyed cloth. Conditioning your bag will help keep it from ‘cracking’.
3. Always handle your handbag with clean hands. Hand moisturisers and make up can stain your bag.
4. What if my leather handbag gets wet?
Leather can develop water stains if wet, so if you really must take your leather handbag out in the rain or it gets wet, dry it as soon as possible. Just wipe it with a soft clean cloth, then hang it and let it air dry slowly and naturally. Don’t dry it with heat or sunlight, otherwise leather might become
hard.
5. How should I store my handbag?
To store your leather handbag, do so in a dry, dark and airy environment. DO NOT put leather handbags near water (humidity), which might cause stains and moulds and keep in a clean area. Buy some bubble wrap to use as stuffing for your handbag whilst it is not being used. Bubble wrap can be found at stationary supply stores. Bubble wrap is preferred over tissue paper, as the later can attract moths. If you have a protective dust bag or use a natural fibre pillow case this is also a must to use when your bag is not in use.
Handbags and bag quality
October 12th, 2011With anything in life, the common adage says that “you cannot pay a little to get a lot” and this saying goes with handbags also. You’ll find that the handbags that are often the nicest in terms of design, style and precision are the most expensive bags. The materials used and the process that these bags are made from is far superior to the older technologies still being used by some manufacturers. The bags you’ll find online at eHandbags.com.au are made from genuine leather manufacturers including Manzoni. Manzoni bags and accessories are well regarded for their strict quality standards. When bags are assembled, the technique used to thread fabrics together is paramount. The process must be finitely accurate to ensure your bag doesn’t start to tear away at the threads after some wear and tear. Many handbags manufacturers now use PU (Poly Urethane) material to construct handbags, and although lightweight, durable and cost effective, there is no comparison to genuine leather handbags. In choosing the right handbag, ask yourself how long you wish to keep it and also how often you plan to use it. If you plan to use it daily, then leather is you best option.

We’re all going on a Summer holiday!
September 30th, 2011You wouldn’t know it with the weather down here in Melbourne at the moment, but Summer is just around the corner. Gyms are touting their various get fit quick systems (I have fallen for one of these, joined the local gym), stores have already started putting up their Christmas decorations and I am already starting to see a little more leg out there. So what does this mean for you? Time to put away the winter handbag you’ve been using and look for something fresh and vibrant for the next few months. I find that having pretty and colourful things brightens my mood.
